A solid warm-up carried through to the start of the game and was similarly reflected by the other team, as they pressed the Taylor’s boys high. Keeping a clean sheet following the first succession of short corners, Dan Brier commanded his PCD to stay disciplined as this OMT side tried to find their footing in the game. Constant high pressure from H&W was absorbed by Kabir Mandair whose composure kept the score at 0-0 by halftime. After words of positivity from captain Michael Strachan, Taylor’s started off strong for the first 15 minutes, playing their usual entertaining fluid hockey flooding the H&W defence, leading to the first corner for OMT. A deceptive variation from Mike Penny was calmly converted by a diving Matt Fildes leaving the keeper with no chance, 1-0 OMT. H&W were able to equalise a few minutes later, after they created a counterattack from an OMT mistake, 1-1. A controversial call from the umpire meant OMT faced multiple corners, similar to the first half they were kept out by Dan. Another controversial call from the ref, which was disputed by the OMT bench, meant that H&W had a penalty flick which they only narrowly scored. The Taylor’s side continued to push for an equaliser but there was little time left. With the game ending 2-1, 1’s are eager for next Saturday where they aim to get their second win of the season.
